What is natural link building?
What is natural link building and how does it affect SEO? Is it another myth or does it happen for real and what is the impact on rankings and traffic?
I will try to provide answers to the above questions using the blog you are reading now as a case study and also give you examples of natural links.
What is natural link building?
Natural link building is exactly what the name suggests i.e. links that are created naturally without the website owner having to go and generate them either through guest posting, or other forms of link building practices.
In simple words, natural links happen when other webmasters, bloggers or website owners link to your content (blogs, images, products, videos etc) because they think is useful for their readers and adds value to their websites or pages.
Is natural link building important?
It is widely accepted in the SEO industry that having natural links is the best, safest, fastest and among the most efficient ways to promote a blog or website.
With natural links you can feel secure that your content is good and that your rankings and traffic will not be affected by a Google algorithmic change.
Is it another SEO Myth?
One of the things I had real trouble understanding when I first started with blogging was ‘how to get natural links’. I did not know what I had to do so that other people find and link to my content. I always believed that this was a myth and that the only way to get links was to build them.
The problem with building links though is that sooner or later Google will find out that the links are not natural and you will end up losing both your rankings and traffic. Even worse, they may also impose a penalty on your domain and that will make it even more difficult for you.
So, the only way to gain rankings is to avoid bad practices but follow pure white had SEO techniques and natural link building is one of them.
What were the actual benefits from natural links?
- Traffic – All the above websites have lots of traffic and the day the posts were featured on their home pages, I got a good amount of traffic coming to my blog.
- Industry recognition – It is always good to get referenced by some of the top blogs in your industry.
- More natural links – When the big guys link to you, other blogs link to you as well. If you are important for the big blogs, you are also important for the smaller blogs.
- Courage – Similar to the 2nd, but when you see those natural links flowing in, you get more courage to continue what you do.
- More social shares – The posts that attracted natural links were the ones that got the most attention in social media networks as well.
- Better rankings – Incoming links do affect rankings and the pages that received those links enjoy good first page rankings.
How do you get natural links?
Obviously this is the most important question of this article. The benefits of natural links are all great but how do you get them? It’s a three step process and one that I am sure you heard before but let’s review it again:
#1-Write/publish/create good content – If the content is not good then nobody will naturally link to it. If you are still at the beginning and nobody is reading you content don’t get disappointed; write like your articles are read by thousands of people and try to make them better and better. Don’t just look for the present but try to plan for the future. When the time comes and traffic will start flowing in, you have to be ready with good content to keep your visitors engaged

Link Building
Why Link Building Need
One of the most important elements in creating Search Engine Optimization (SEO) content for elevated rankings is link building. If a business is looking for long-term success in their online presence, taking advantage of this technology is a valuable opportunity to rise in rankings. Choosing the method of building links that brings the best possible search engine results is imperative.A business’ online presence should benefit from the time spent creating the link relationship.

Some linking happens organically with sites and pages referencing a business or the site content. Searching through directory listings of similar industry sites for linking opportunities is another traffic increasing option for online content managers. Utilizing existing online relationships for to build links is one way to increase traffic to your site. Emails to bloggers for reciprocal links can be an excellent way to build online reputations and utilize the process to a company’s best advantage. Beyond the contact point with bloggers or online content creators, submitting links to directories is another way to increase search engine rankings. Visitors to a business site can also be valuable elements in the process. Customers can be involved through signature links, reciprocal link-backs, comments or posted profiles. Businesses can then build traffic through the link connections created. Caution should be exercised that this type of linking shouldn’t be automatically generated or perceived as spam on the linking sites.
All of these methods can take time away from business growth and require a solid knowledge of SEO concepts. If the time and cost of building links internally is prohibitive, companies can utilize a link service to create the relationship between sites. These services can create a solid backlink for online presences that integrates anchor text links to increase traffic. Companies can benefit from using a service when they have a less-cluttered site without links to an extended list of companies. When choosing a company to create links for increased rankings, businesses should consider a company with proven results, high page rank site placement, auto-pinging and permanent links. This cost and time-effective method of using an external company works to increase a company’s ranking through better indexing and relevant links. Considering the benefits of building link relationships internally or through a link service can net companies increased rankings and a strong back link.

Link Building :- Link Baiting
At the
very heart of white hat link building, and indeed what separates it from other
'greyer' forms of acquiring links, is the premise that links should be
'earned', that is they should be editorially given. Quite simply, great link
building, starts with great content, and the stronger your 'bait', the easier
your link building and outreach efforts will become. So what makes for great
link bait? Well, here are some ideas.
Taking something awesome and making it even better
Brian
Dean has this tactic nailed with his 'skyscraper technique', which in a
nutshell is finding previously popular and proven content, and making it
better.
The
great thing about this method is that you are taking the guesswork out of your
link building and content marketing efforts as you: -
a) know
the content will be popular (if you can get eyes on it)
b) you
can run through the link profile of the old content to find hot link prospects
Make It More Visually Appealing
Take a
boring list post and turn it into something visually awesome. This could simply
mean creating some custom graphics, or perhaps including an infographic (great
for outreach).
Of
course, if those images are swipeable, even better!
Make It Longer
Sometimes
all that's needed is to build on what's already there.
For
example, if you find a list of 20 free tools to do x, you might turn it into a
list of 40 free tools to do x...or better still 100 free tools to do x.
Make It More Comprehensive
Again, using
the example of a list style post (20 ways to do x) that simply lists out
methods, you could write up a mini tutorial on each method, instantly making
the post more valuable.
Bring It Up To Date
Things
change. Take advantage of this and find old, popular content that may be a
little old hat and bring it up to date.
Widget/Tool
Creating
an awesome tool, or widget is a great way to pick up high quality links.
One of
my favourite examples is this interactive widget from ConcertHotels, which
showcases the vocal ranges of the world's greatest singers in a beautiful
visual format.
It
picked up a lot of great links (over 500 referring domains), including this one
from Time Magazine. That's the kind of link that can make a difference!
Of
course, Ahrefs itself is an awesome tool that's often referenced in SEO
tutorials and guides, resulting in a pretty impressive backlink profile (if we
do say so ourselves!).
Videos
Videos
are great link bait, and if you can stumble upon the magic formula of creating
a video that goes viral (yes, sometimes it does seem like it takes a little
magic), then your link profile will get a serious boost.
Not with
standing the viral magic, you can of course share your video on numerous free
channels – just make sure you include a link in the description.
News Round-ups
If you
can become a go-to source for news in your industry, then you will pick up
regular links from other sites, which will cite you as a source.
This
could be as simple as a weekly round-up, or, depending on your industry, more
regular news updates.
You
could also consider submitting your site for inclusion in Google news, which
can be a nice source of additional traffic (and link yielding eyeballs) if
accepted.
